Intonation Station – Paul Layzell

Are you sick of some notes sounding out of tune even though you’ve just tuned up? Intonation Station creates a profile of your instrument’s intonation while you play your favourite tune, revealing the exact notes you need to work on. Detailed statistics are generated that enable you to get the best from your instrument, including charts and scores for intonation and note consistency.

Intonation describes how in tune a musical instrument is with itself. All acoustic instruments are a compromise between note quality and tuning. Some notes are consistently sharp or flat and you can’t tell which ones by using a normal tuner, since it’s well known that musicians play differently in performance. Intonation Station generates a profile of your instrument’s Intonation in a clear chart, that tells you immediately what notes you have to work on, or whether you need to call in the technician!

Intonation is aimed primarily at keyed wind instruments, but can also be used with strings, non-keyed instruments like the trombone, or voice training.

It’s also a valuable tool for musical instrument technicians, greatly speeding up assessment of an instrument’s characteristics before servicing.

We’re determined to make Intonation Station the best possible app for enabling you to play perfectly in tune, with full documentation on the website. Please get in touch with suggestions for any new features you’d like to add, or existing ones you think could be improved.
