The creator of Engine License brings Deck License to iOS!
Deck License is a study tool for the USCG Deck License Examinations structured similar to Engine License.
Full disclosure, solutions are not included at this time since this app is developed by an engineer. Solutions will come at a later. Solution submissions to the developer email are welcome!
Here’s how it works…
The app is divided up into 6 subjects: Generals, Safety, Rules, Navigation, Navigation Problems, and Chart Plot.
Each subject can be purchased in-app one at at time or through a bundle at a reduced cost. The choice is yours on how you want to pay. A weekly subscription is offered as well called the Cram Plan* which unlocks everything. The bundle for this app is the Unlimited Package which unlocks all subjects.
The subjects are then divided into sub-subjects. For example, Near Coastal and Oceans.
Each sub-subject features a Study Mode, Review Mode, Test Mode, and Database Mode.
-Study Mode: Go through all of the questions one by one. The ones you get right will be eliminated.
-Review Mode: Once study mode is completed you can review the questions you don’t know till you know them all.
-Test Mode: After Review or anytime, generate randomized tests with 25, 50, or 70 questions.
-Question Bank Mode: Explore the entire question bank and test by category. You could use it to memorize questions and answers before going to Study Mode. It’s like going through the Murphy’s books with the answers highlighted.
Illustrations are included! Note that there are no solutions like in the Engine License app, but they may show up later down the line as this app is developed by a marine engineer. Also note that this app is not divided by ratings. A helpful examination guide is provided in the app’s settings to show what subjects/sub-subjects go with your license. This app is geared more towards Oceans and Near Coastal licenses.
The amount of questions in each bank are as follows…
Navigation Problems: 1,313
Chart Plot: 1,990
Total: 15,022 questions
Study On the Go!
With all of these questions in your pocket, you can study anywhere! Be aware that only the subscription requires an internet connection.
Study on iPhone or iPad!
Progress and saves sync through iCloud between iPhone and iPad. Must have an internet connection in order for it to work.
What makes Deck License different from the competition?
1. Subscription Optional: Pay once and keep forever or pay as you go. The choice is yours.
2. It’s portable: The other guys require internet or always plugged in USB Sticks for the PC.
3. It updates: The app keeps up to date at least once a year and adopts new features that may benefit the app.
All questions and illustrations were pulled from the question banks that were removed from the NMC website in 2009. Some questions and illustrations were pulled from the sample examinations released by the Coast Guard each year from thereafter. I am not affiliated with the US Coast Guard.
If this app helps you pass the exam, writing an app review or a giving a star rating would be much appreciated!
Feedback is welcome!
