La Cámara se fundó el 16 de octubre de 2006.

Surgió a partir de la idea de algunos de los principales dueños de Pinturerías de Capital y Gran Buenos Aires de crear una Cámara que representara al sector de ventas de pinturas.

CAPIN (Cámara Argentina de Pinturerías) es la única asociación civil que agrupa a comercios mayoristas y minoristas y personas físicas dedicados exclusivamente a la comercialización de pintura.

Uno de los principales motivos por el que nació la Cámara, fue la necesidad de lograr la representatividad del sector con el fin de velar por las normativas que regulan la actividad. El caso emblemático y motivo principal fue la necesidad de modificar la legislación sobre tenencia de inflamables en la Ciudad de Buenos Aires ya que la misma data de 1944 cuando el consumo de pintura y la población nacional era considerablemente inferior al actual.

A las 21 empresas fundadoras se le fueron y van sumando otras desde distintos puntos de la Argentina, concretándose continuas adhesiones que consolidan a la entidad año a año.

Actualmente la Cámara agrupa a más de 90 pinturerías de todo el país que en conjunto operan cerca de 600 puntos de venta. Cuenta, además, con el apoyo de los principales fabricantes y prestadores de servicios del sector.
