ACTIVE WILDFIRES
View active wildfires through NASA’s Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS C6), a satellite detecting fires at the resolution of 1 square kilometer. MODIS fire data refreshes every 24 hours. Fires can be accessed on the ‘Fires’ and ‘Both’ selectors within the application (red dots).
WILDFIRE FORECAST
Access an iOS native map overlay containing color-coded fire potential indicators derived from the Fire Potential Index (United States Geological Survey). This forecast is moisture-based, indicating the relationship between vegetation and flammability throughout the United States (1 square km resolution). The forecast can be accessed on the ‘Danger Overlay’ and ‘Both’ selectors within the application and is updated daily. The color-coded indicators are straightforward, as green indicates low relative fuel flammability and red indicates high relative fuel flammability.
