CareTaker can be used for taking care of yourself, a child, or an adult with health care needs.

CareTaker can be managed for selfcare or for coordinating someone else’s care. You can read information about care management skills, watch examples of situations where these skills can be used, and enter and track personalized information. Information entered can be shared via a variety of formats (such as email messaging).

CareTaker is the result of a collaboration among University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, Medical College of Wisconsin, and Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil). A través de sus pantallas se acompaña al usuario para que conozca e identifique la emoción básica (genética) que está sintiendo, y los estados emocionales asociados a ella, ofreciéndole recursos para entrenar y/o gestionar esas emociones cuando no son pertinentes, o útiles, a la situación que toca vivir, promoviendo así su inteligencia emocional y su bienestar.
Reconociendo que el punto de partida de cualquier propuesta vinculada a la inteligencia emocional se inspira, de un modo u otro, en los trabajos pioneros de Salovey y Mayer, la presente aplicación se asienta fundamentalmente en los avances y aportaciones realizadas por el equipo de Roberto Aguado y su modelo VEC (Vinculación Emocional Consciente).
No se ha diseñado para hacer terapia sino para ayudar en el crecimiento personal, a través de la mejora de la inteligencia emocional. Por eso, comparte lo que sientes con tus personas cercanas; habla con tu familia y amistades; con tus referentes, aquellas personas a las que admiras y respetas, para encontrar, si hace falta, apoyo y consuelo; y si la intensidad o duración de lo que sientes te desborda más de lo que puedes gestionar, permite que la medicina o la psicología clínica te ayuden.
Puede que el usuario entre en la aplicación sabiendo qué emoción está viviendo, pero, de no ser así, basta con un máximo de cinco preguntas para ser capaz de reconocer cuál es la emoción que está sintiendo. A partir de ahí, se le propondrá valorar su pertinencia para ese momento, decidiendo si conviene disfrutarla, aceptarla, dejarla ir o gestionarla. Disfrutarla, o dejarla ir, no suele ser tan problemático, pero, a veces, cuesta aceptar que lo que sientes, siendo desagradable, es lo que toca vivir en ese momento; o cuesta saber cómo gestionar el cambio de una emoción que me hace sentir mal y no es pertinente en esa situación. Por eso la aplicación ofrece ayuda en uno y otro caso.
En la pantalla de recursos de gestión, por ejemplo, se brinda un buen número de opciones que han demostrado su utilidad en numerosos estudios. Las referencias en la aplicación a las investigaciones que avalan cada recurso (las imágenes de naturaleza, músicas, sonidos naturales, pensamientos positivos, meditaciones, ejercicios, retos, etc.), son breves porque hemos querido llegar a todo tipo de público con una lectura fácil de las propuestas.
El último de los recursos, los retos, invita, como dice un viejo proverbio zen, a moverse para que el camino aparezca. Son retos que no están ahí para simplemente leerlos sino para actuar. Con cada 10 desafíos logrados se supera un nivel: bronce, plata y oro, y se abre uno de los tres candados que muestra la pantalla.
