Книга, которая перед вами, есть труд по апологетике. Её автор архиепископ Лука (Войно-Ясенецкий) был замечательным врачом и мог бы до конца жизни с совершенно чистой совестью нести это служение страждущему человечеству. Но он почувствовал призвание к ещё более высокому служению, и в самые страшные для Церкви годы он принимает священство, а вскоре и епископский сан. После недолгого пребывания на менявшихся по чужой воле кафедрах – долгие годы заточения. Потом наступили годы хрупкого и двусмысленного “сталинского конкордата”, когда под влиянием военных событий произошло, в довольно узких рамках, возрождение церковной жизни. У подавляющего большинства священников, вернувшихся из тюрем и лагерей, было одно чувство: “ну вот, теперь мы можем служить”, владыка Лука хотел не только служить, но и бороться за души тех, кто был далёк от Церкви. Так возникла эта книга, одно из замечательных произведений церковного “самиздата”…
В своей книге архиепископ Лука рассматривает теорию высшей нервной деятельности академика И. Павлова, которую в СССР объявили высшим достижением материализма, и показывает, что единственное философское учение, которое позволяет включить в себя павловскую теорию, это самое антиматериалистическое из всего, что дала философия в XX веке, учение А. Бергсона. Когда с такого рода апологетической теорией выступает лауреат Сталинской премии по медицине, она гораздо более весома, чем если бы её стал развивать хотя бы и большой богослов, но менее искушенный в естественных науках.
Замечательная книга человека, который всю жизнь служил Богу и защищал веру и Церковь делом, словом и писанием, будет и впредь помогать многим и многим в обретении веры, радости о Господе и в преодолении “антирелигиозных предрассудков”.
