The ‘Seismic Safety Chart’ application measures vibrations of a building with the built-in acceleration sensors of the iPhone / iPod touch, and assesses the structural soundness of the building after an earthquake. As soon as the application starts, it measures the vibrations and continuously displays the vibration intensity.
In order to use the ‘Seismic Safety Chart’ application properly, it is necessary to fix the iPhone / iPod touch firmly on the floor or on the wall of the building.
When the place where the iPhone / iPod touch is set vibrates stronger than the threshold value (not only due to earthquakes but also other vibrations), the recording starts. Then, when the vibration becomes weaker than the threshold value, the recording finishes. It is also possible to perform recording in response to an emergency earthquake warning by a command from an external server.
When one earthquake recording is completed, the damage of the building by the earthquake is evaluated and the result of the soundness judgment of the building is displayed graphically. The seismic intensity to what extent the building is safe for shaking in the future (safety limit seismic intensity ) is also displayed. Since the measurement result is saved in the iPhone / iPod touch itself, you can see the history.
The above judgment is based on a simple evaluation method, but when it accumulates data by measuring for a long time, it will be easy for anyone to check the changing tendency of the vibration characteristic of the building. For this evaluation calculation it is essential to fix the iPhone / iPod touch firmly on the floor (or wall) and then enter the building information correctly to the application.
We strongly recommend you to use this application to monitor health of your house by yourself. The data measured with this application will surely be a power for maintenance, repair, and reinforcement work of the building in the future.
“Seismic Safety Chart” application will surely help you.
We hope that you will use it forever.

Note:
The seismic intensity referred to here is not the seismic intensity announced by the Japan Meteorological Agency, but the seismic intensity equivalent value.
This application assumes vibration measurement of buildings built in Japan.
