Cuselight is an LLC company based in Syracuse, NY and will commence operations on college campuses and cities throughout the United States.
Affordability, accessibility, and sustainability of academic materials and resources are a pressing problem within academic institutions. The prices of products such as books and supplies are rising as time passes. Essentially, books are purchased from bookstores at full price which can be relatively high depending on the class and sold back to the bookstores at extremely low prices. Students are losing money by selling it through third party vendors such as bookstores instead of selling it directly to other students who needs these products. Once semester, Aldrine Ashong-Katai spent $650 on academic materials (Solely books) and at the end of the semester, wasn’t offered any more than $60 collectively for the materials knowing that those products were in need by upcoming students looking to take those similar classes. This lead to the understanding that there is an untapped market within universities where people have resources including Books, Electronics, Furniture, Appliances and more to sell but don’t have a real reliable and secure means of promoting and offering to desiring customers within the same community.
Realizing that there’s an untapped academic market with no definite connection between buyers and sellers, it’s understandable that there’s also so much waste that comes with this. Each semester, thousands of dollars’ worth of value go to waste as people move out of residential locations as well as purge unneeded items from storage. There’s a lot of value that goes to waste, and it’s Cuselight’s goal to improve conditions by reducing waste and encouraging sustainable behavior through use of our services. Putting much needed resources back in the cycle and market where others are able to acquire products for cheap will save the buyer money as well as make the seller money. We aim to encourage and promote sustainable behavior which will ultimately benefit all parties especially those with low income background.
Cuselight’s unique value proposition is to make and save students money while encouraging sustainability within academic institutions through reduced waste of academic and household resources. Through the promotion of products, services, rides, and information Cuselight ensures a level of connectedness that will benefit users through optimizing convenience while creating access. The service of connecting individuals within a network where they can be availed to most resources available within the academic market gives students and other campus members the opportunity to buy and sell desired campus goods safely and easily to and from other members of the campus community.
