GroupNome – Kenneth Casey

GroupNome allows musicians to listen to a metronome stemming from the same time source without needing access to expensive external setups such as wireless monitoring devices and audio interfaces. It is my goal via GroupNome to provide musicians of all kinds access to a metronome in situations previously not possible without such expensive equipment. Situations such as playing with multiple live percussionists or loud rock bands can be a nightmare if more than one individual wants to listen to the click and you cannot afford a dedicated set up to do so, no more. No longer will you have to worry about external equipment for synchronized timing, with GroupNome you can stay in sync using the device in your pocket.
GroupNome can be used in three ways. The first was is as a standalone metronome. This is the default setting as well as the setting you will be reverted to when you leave/end a group. In this mode, the app will function as a regular metronome and your actions will not impact any other users of the app. The second is the host mode. You can start hosting by going to manage group connections and then clicking host. When hosting a session, you are in control of setting tempo and time signature information as well as the sole individual that is responsible for both starting and stopping the click. You cannot start the metronome when there are no users in your group. Others can join your session by clicking the join button in the manage group connections menu. When you join a session, you are in slave mode which is the final mode of the app. In this mode, you will be unable to control the functionality of the metronome yourself and instead will receive all the commands initiated by the host you are connected to. You may leave a session at any time by going back to the manage group connections menu.
