With Lunch.Co employers create a healthier work lunch culture by making it simple for employees to buy and sell homemade lunches. The meals created by amateur cooks—the employees themselves—can be bought and sold within a closed community to which the employer controls access.
Quick and hassle-free, users within a Lunch.Co community are able to offer meals they prepare at home for sale and deliver these pre-ordered meal portions to colleagues at work. The easy-to-use interface allows them to showcase their offered meal with images, detail its ingredients, list when and where it will be delivered and set their own price, among other things. Similarly, users can order and pay for meals offered by colleagues in the simple, clean interface that lets them easily see available meals on offer and full listed details.
The peer-to-peer payment process is handled seamlessly by the app using a secure online payments technology and for every meal transacted on the app, Lunch.Co commits to delivering a meal to a poor rural community in Madagascar. This CSR initiative of the app has been up and running and delivering meals in Madagascar since September 2019.
In addition to its meal transactions, the app contains a range of other engaging features and content including kitchen hacks, food handling and hygiene information and delicious recipes ideal for lunches, among other things.
Advantages for employers implementing a Lunch.Co community include making it easy to help their employees eat healthier and more appealing lunches, to have greater diversity and choice at lunchtime, to save money on work lunches and to earn extra income from the lunches they sell.
But Lunch.Co offers organisational advantages beyond just practical lunch benefits the social engagement through the shared enjoyment and passion for food and cooking. The platform draws on research that shows that employees who eat together feel a greater sense of wellbeing, feel more positive about their workplace and perform better as a team. It also helps companies contribute to food and packaging waste reduction and to seamlessly introduce participation in the on-board CSR initiative to support poor rural communities in Madagascar, one of the world’s poorest countries.
