Grape Assess – Adelaide Research & Innovation Pty Ltd

Grape Assess, a tool to facilitate assessment of grape diseases and disorders, was developed as part of a
project led by the University of Adelaide, involving researchers from several institutions and Australian wine industry representatives, with funding from Wine Australia.

Grape Assess is an expansion of PMapp, developed for assessment of powdery mildew by the same team and released in 2016. It includes the diagrammatic key with 2% increments in severity, image browser and self calibration tool that were developed to assist assessment of powdery mildew (Erysiphe necator) on bunches.

Visual assessment is a readily available technique for assessing diseases and disorders on grapes. It is acknowledged to be subjective. Research indicates that there is variation between experienced assessors, where assessment of the same bunch results in different levels of infection severity.
